The Today Screen

The today screen is the first screen you see when you log in to My Web Brain. The today screen shows a quick thought collection form, a current context selector and a list of your next actions within that context.

The Quick Thought Form

Basic Usage

The Quick Thought Form allows you to quickly capture a thought and save it in My Web Brain. Simply enter your thought (140 characters maximum) into the text field and press enter or click the 'Save' button.

If you click on the 'Enter more details' link, you will be taken to the the detailed thought collection form.

Shortcuts

Since you will be frequently starting your workflow from the Quick Thought form, we have added some keyboard shortcuts you can use while typing your thought:

  • If your thought is urgent, end your thought with an exclamation mark(!). The thought will automatically be marked as time-sensitive or urgent (which is an option in the detailed thought collection form). For example:
    Boss wants report today!
  • If you would like to enter more detail to the thought after it has been saved, end your thought with a colon(:), My Web Brain will save the thought as usual but will then navigate you to the detailed form so you can input more detail. For example:

  • If you want to process a new quick thought immediately, end your thought with a greater-than symbol(>). When the thought is saved you will be taken to the thought processing screen, defaulted to and action result, automatically. For example:
I need to process this thought immediately>
  • If your thought is essentially a simple next action item, end your thought with a two greater-than symbols (>>). My Web Brain will save the thought, mark it processed and create a new next action in the current context. For example:
    Ring Jeremy about tickets>>

The shortcuts can be combined in limited ways. For example, ending a thought with '!>>' will not only create a new action but also set the due date to today.
